It is a great tool for network engineers, security administrators, network software developers and anyone who needs to analyze their network traffic, either Ethernet or Wireless. It presents IP packets in a easily understood format, allows filtering of IP packets by port number and address. The interface is quite well organized. The main display shows a time stamp, source and destination IP, protocol, length of the packet along with source and destination port numbers. Second part of the display shows the contents of a packet selected in the main display. This could be in text or hex mode depending on the selection made. The third part of the display id the tree structure showing the IP header contents.
For close analysis of data it is possible to reduce the data with filters so that one can see very clearly the pattern of what’s happening with the traffic in the network. With the source IP and port number as well as destination IP address and the port number one can focus on specific traffic streams for debugging of a problem. From there to arrive at a conclusion about what’s wrong becomes fairly easy.
Cons: Nothing problematic noticed.
Overall this is a well designed, well organized application that focuses on one set of features and does the functions well. This is 4 star material.
